There's been some fantastic news for Carlow this morning, with the announcement of €315,416 being awarded to 121 local projects across the town and county. This funding has been allocated under the 2022 Community Support Fund, the key theme of which is to support local and community groups, clubs and organisations - particularly in disadvantaged areas - with their energy bills, as well as with improvements to their facilities.
We all know and appreciate the amazing work being done by volunteers and community groups in our towns and villages across Carlow, and the Community Support Fund is an important acknowledgement of just how vital that contribution is. It’s there to support locally led, grassroots projects with their operational costs, and give them a helping hand at a challenging time, whether that’s with energy costs, insurance or other overheads.
Individually, some these grants are small in nature, but I know they will make a huge impact to these clubs and organisations. Others, including just over €26,000 for the Forward Steps Family Resource Centre and €18,000 for the Bagenalstown Family Resource Centre, will help them to make an even bigger impact on their communities. In a very real sense it’s funding like this that helps our local clubs and organisations to keep the lights on, keep offering services, facilities and events to the people of Carlow, and continue the incredible work that they do.
Today's funding recipients includes scout groups, mens' sheds, community gardens, sports clubs, day care centres, resource centres, gardening groups, retirement associations and so many more... I want to say a huge well done to all the recipients and extend my thanks to Carlow County Council and the Local Community Development Committee for administering the fund.
